Saitama can easily win any fight in one punch and is never threatened by any monster/villain but he is otherwise basically a broke-ass loser living in a wrecked part of town and pretty much none of the people he's rescued even know he exists. Take Saitama as a direct inversion of typical heroes: Their main conflicts are the monster/villains they have to defeat, while otherwise their life is perfect, they've got money (often a lot) everybody loves them etc. But he was there to experience martial arts (and got disappointed, as is his fate). The tournament was no different, there was no challenge, he could have easily held the wig with one hand and won with the other. Only the other characters get to have challenging fights and struggle for victory. Saitama is there as a deconstruction of Superman/other overpowered MCs, he show that bein this overpowered removes all the challenge from fighting and that strength alone does not lead to a fullfilling life, which is why all actual challeges he faces come from something other than fighting.
